Welcome to Jules Beads!
Jewellery maker, Julie Meriano grew up in an area wedged between London and Epping Forest and was always interested in arts and crafts. Her passion for beads truly began in 1975 when she was working in London and was introduced to the beads shops. Julie soon found that her passion for designing and making beaded jewellery was not only enjoyable and theraputic, but that she had a real talent for it and so began her career in this field. She looked at the history of beads and found inspiration from their importance both culturally and religiously. On moving with her family to Street in 1999, Julie decided to start her own company. She had a stall on Wells market from 2003 from which she sold her own designs made with a variety of beads including those she imported specially from India. The requirement for a workshop led Julie to her present studio in Street and Jules Beads opened for business in 2006. It is a little gem of a place with a High Street address, but the actual entrance tucked away in Goswell Road. In this Aladdin's Cave Julie creates her jewellery - much of it made specifically to order. Growing up in the area that was at one time home to William Morris, founder of the Arts and Crafts Movement of the 19th century, has also inspired Julie. Her shop is as colourful as any pre-Raphaelite painting and she hosts other local artists and craftspeople and encourages new designers. To contact me: (01458) 442630
